Datasource tables are not updated instantanely

Summary
In the Wiiisdom Cloud Platform, outdated data appearing in the table list for the Row Count, Column Statistics, and Datasource Values steps. This behavior affects customers who use Tableau Cloud.

This happens because the tableau internal process does not always update the background details (metadata) immediately after changes are made.
The issue has been observed repeatedly, even in newer environments like the us-east-1 region.

Symptoms

  • Metadata displayed in Tableau Cloud does not match the latest state of the content.

  • Changes in workbooks or data sources are not visible directly in the pipeline editor (Tableau validation steps)

Root Cause
Tableau Cloud manages metadata refresh internally. There is no customer-controlled mechanism to force or schedule metadata refreshes. The refresh cadence is determined by Tableau and may vary across pods.

Impact

  • Inconsistent metadata can affect governanceauditing, and automated workflows relying on accurate metadata.

  • Table names seen during configuration and in the execution report may differ.

Workarounds
Currentlyno direct workaround exists to trigger metadata refresh from the customer side.

Recommended actions:
  • Validate critical metadata directly in Tableau Cloud UI when accuracy is essential.

  • Inform stakeholders that metadata may lag behind actual content changes.

Next Steps / Communication

  • We have escalated this issue to Tableau for review.

  • Customers should be aware that this is a known limitation of Tableau Cloud and not a configuration issue on their side.
